How the TSC Pension Formula Works

Unreduced Pension
Months Worked ÷ 480 × Annual Basic Salary ÷ 12
This is the monthly pension where the teacher does not commute one-quarter of the pension.

Lump Sum
Months Worked ÷ 480 × Annual Basic Salary × ¼ × 20
This represents the commuted pension lump sum.

Reduced Pension
Months Worked ÷ 480 × Annual Basic Salary × ¾ ÷ 12
This is the monthly pension remaining after the one-quarter commutation.

Why 480?
480 = 12 × 40
The TSC schedule explains 480 as 12 months multiplied by 40 expected years of service.
